A Corset Coursett
Tue meeting for April 04, 2017, 8:00pm
The corset is among the most evocative symbols of forbidden sexuality: its allure can be at once feminine and cruel, whether a satin and lace confection or a steel and leather construction. It may suggest dominance, bondage, innocence, or sophistication. In this class, you will learn how corsets are intertwined with 400 years of cultural history, ideals of beauty and health, fashion, and fetishism. You will learn how corsets are made, how to select a corset for yourself, wear and care for it, and maybe even get inspired to try making your own. Marilee’s presentation is full of eye candy for corset admirers, including historical images, photos, and garments. You will have the chance to see and handle corset-making materials, corsets, and reference books. You are also welcome to bring along an interesting corset or related piece to share with the group.
Marilee’s interests in kink and dressing up are inseparable. (It has been said that she thinks S&M means “stand and model.”) She has made and worn elaborate historical and fantasy costumes for reenactments, fairs, conventions, teas, balls, and many other occasions. When she became active in the kinky community, she was delighted to find that she could wear the same costumes, with fewer layers! She has been a member of Black Rose for 10 years, and in addition to presenting on corsets and fetishwear, she has served as BR’s Membership Director, Gateway Host, and Social Diva. She received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2013.
$5 for members and members of reciprocal groups. $10 for non-members. Cash only please!
