Class: Hurting Bodies Need Loving, Too

A session that centers the experiences of persons with chronic pain, illness, and nausea and how they navigate sex and their sexuality. Discussion of how these conditions impact pleasure, desire, and libido; the interaction of the medical industrial complex with identities like race, gender, and sexuality. Panel will feature discussion of making sex enjoyable for people with chronic conditions, using sexual aids, and engaging in sexuality while in pain.
Katie O is a queer femme and sexual assault survivor who has lived with chronic pain and illness for over a decade. She is a reproductive justice activist and abortion doula who has written about the intersections between the reproductive and disability justice movements. Most recently, her piece “We Need to Talk about Disability as a Reproductive Justice Issue” was published in Radical Reproductive Justice: Foundation, Theory, Practice, Critique. Katie uses she/her/hers pronouns and lives in northern Virginia with her weird and anxious rescue dog Ella.
Lily Bolourian is an Iranian-American reproductive and environmental justice activist. A survivor of childhood sexual abuse and warrior of chronic illness, Lily has spent her life organizing direct actions, protests, online mobilizations, and more in favor of reproductive justice and sexual agency for all. She uses she/her/hers pronouns and wears Chucks.
