More than Chocolate and Cuddles: The Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of Aftercare

Tue meeting for March 14, 2017 8:00 PM

More than Chocolate and Cuddles: The Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of Aftercare with Watercolors and Yellow Moonrise

Aftercare: we’ve all heard of it and most of us have done it, but most of us never really figure it out. Why do some people need hours of cuddles after a scene, but others just want to be left alone? How do you figure out what you need from aftercare? What about your partner’s needs? When should aftercare take place? How do you negotiate for it? What if your partner can’t or doesn’t meet your needs? What if your needs change, or you realize you have unexpected needs you didn’t negotiate for? Why does aftercare matter? In this workshop-style, participatory class, we’ll come up with our own definitions of aftercare, learn how to talk about and negotiate for aftercare, discuss who needs aftercare and why we need it, and figure out how to identify our own needs and whether and why our needs might change.

Watercolors (she, her, hers) is a giggly, squirmy, and often snarky bottom. She’s been in the DC-area scene for about 5 years and has previously led classes for C.L.U.E and BR. In her professional life, she’s an experienced trainer and presenter, albeit on much less interesting topics. She came up with the idea for an aftercare workshop after having a giant panic attack following a really awesome scene and discovering that her experience was not at all uncommon. When she’s not doing kinky things, she enjoys singing, dancing, travel, and cats.

Yellow_moonrise (she, her, hers) is a bottom who enjoys (among other things) sensation, tickling, impact, and once in a while, being beaten so hard she cries and totally hits her mental reset button. She’s lived in the DC area for just over 20 years and has been in the local kinky community since October 2012. While she doesn’t feel “brand spanking new” anymore, she still enjoys finding more out about what makes her kinky self tick. This aftercare class is one she has co-led previously for both BR and C.L.U.E., and the topic is one that continues to intrigue her. By day, she’s a high school English teacher and has taught pre-K though 12th graders, so she’s no stranger to education. Outside of kink, yellow_moonrise loves baking, stargazing, exploring new places, seeing Shakespeare plays, spending time near or in large bodies of water, and eating watercolors’ pies.

Acro yoga: what the heck is it? with Sylana Gatane

Tue meeting for February 21, 2017, 8:00pm

Who can do it? How do you start playing with it, and what kinky things can you use it for? These are the exciting questions we will ask and answer, in this beginner-friendly introductory class!

We’ll start by demonstrating what acro yoga looks like, and how rope bondage can be happily incorporated into an acro yoga practice. But why stop there? It’s a big beautiful kinky world — there’s more you can do with partner acrobatics than just adding rope.

Kinky or vanilla, acro yoga is fantastic fun! But acrobatic movement arts – like so many BDSM activities — carry certain risks. So we’ll talk about how to learn acro yoga safely, if it tickles your inner RAWR, and give you the tools to pursue RACA (Risk Aware Consensual Acro). And we’ll also explore the areas where acro etiquette follows or diverges from standard BDSM social expectations, so you’ll be comfortable going to an acro event and jumping right into the fun.

If you’d like to try it yourself, the last portion of the class will be volunteer-friendly: try flying or basing some simple poses with one of us. S ee how it feels to rise above it all on someone else’s feet — or be the powerhouse holding it all together! Finally we’ll make sure you have the tools and resources to pursue it further, if acro yoga – kinky or otherwise– seems like a thing that makes you go HMMM.

And once you glimpse the possibilities acro yoga can offer, for exploring lovely joyful things… well, if there’s enough community interest in follow-up educational opportunities… who knows what kinky acro classes might be scheduled next?! 😉

Sylana Gatane is an ardent acro yoga fiend, with a fetish for kinkifying perfectly nice respectable movement arts. She’s also an enthusiastic rope bottom who often seems to delight in making things harder for herself than they need to be – and these passions coalesce perfectly in the practice of acro shibari. Sylana serves as organizer for a private acro shibari practice group (whose members will assist with class presentation), and moderates the ‘DC Acro Kinksters’ group on Fetlife. She also organizes vanilla acro yoga events in Montgomery County, and loves seeing people light up when they discover the joyful practice (and pervertability!) of acro yoga.

Food Porn: Valentine’s Chocolate and Other Kinky Food and Play With Albertina

Tue meeting for February 14, 2017, 08:00pm

“*Food porn* is a glamorized spectacular visual presentation of cooking or eating in advertisements, infomercial , blogs, cooking shows or other visual media, foods boasting a high fat and calorie content, exotic dishes that arouse a desire to eat or the glorification of food as a substitute for sex.” Wikipedia.

But why substitute, let’s learn how to use food to make our play tastier and more interesting. Sweet or Savory, the goal with this class is to give you options to integrate with your style play, no matter the side of the slash you prefer.

Albertina has two switches: On and asleep. Just a little evil and twisted she believes in living life with no holds barred while enjoying the smartasses around her. She believes that sarcasm should be used like a knife, and flirting should include bacon and butter with a touch of chaos.

As a part of the BDSM community for over 15 years Albertina believes we are students of life and that education among our population is lacking as whole. She believes in the intellectual approach to BDSM and Power Exchange through education with a variety of resources, and at venues where ideas are posed, discussed, and explored. Received the Black Rose Volunteer of the Year Award in 2016.

Leave the Ninja Sword, Take the Pocket Knife: Knife Play for Beginners and Beyond With Mr. Fox

Tue meeting for January 31, 2017 8:00 PM

Anyone can pick up a knife and claim to know how to do knife play. Anyone can buy the most ornate, triple bladed movie prop or fill a suitcase with knives and claim to be a blade master. In actuality, knife play whether for sensation, massage, pain, or artistic cutting, involves an understanding of the mechanics behind knife play, simple physics, and an understanding of the human body, not just a really big and ornate blade collection.

This presentation and demo will start at the basics and will finish with some more advanced concepts, topics of discussion include:
Buying your blades
Basics of human skin and pressure points
Mechanics of knife play (how to hold the blade, how to apply pressure)
Different styles of knife play
Mr. Fox, or more commonly just Fox, is a pansexual kinkster who has spent more than half his life involved privately and/or publically within the kink community. A sadomasochist who mainly Doms/Tops and occasionally bottoms/subs, his focus is often on getting inside the minds of his partners before topping with knives, needles, rough body play, boot play, and more. His regular favorite activities usually base around making good connections with people to share good company, good conversation, good food, good cigars, and good play. Fox is also the proud founder of the Indecent Enterprises.

“Say What?!-BDSM Terminology in Context” with Mason deRou

Tue meeting for January 24, 2017 8:00PM

Did you ever wonder what all these BDSM terms mean? Master, slave, Dom, sub, Top, bottom, switch, queer, what does it all mean?! While several people may define these terms differently, this tends to come to a head when individuals from different subcultures come together at a larger event. This presentation is a discussion that seeks to show the baseline that people use with some of these terms, how the same words may be defined or interpreted in many different ways, and how to clarify exactly what it is that you are seeking or what it is that you are using to describe yourself. The variance of each subculture may prevent a concrete definition of each term, but an understanding of the many ways a word can be used can help with better communication among kinksters.

Mason deRou is a primal Master who began his walk into the public kink scene in 2009. He has dominion over Miss Kimi deRou and together they form La Maision deRou. Mason is also the commander of La Meute de Rougaroux (The Rougarou Pack). He is a uniform fetishist, pony trainer, erotic photographer, and also loves the littles! Mason leverages his relative youth to build bridges among several kinky tribes and subcultures, allowing the voices of both past and current generations of kinksters to be heard. Mason has presented at BESS, Black Rose, CLUE, Weekend Reunion, and several MAsT chapters. He is a member of MAsT DC Pan and MAsT Washington and is also an alumnus of the MTTA Academy (Master Training XX). Mason resides in southern Maryland.

Flogging can be anything from a soft and sensual experience that leaves you melted and relaxed to a punishing impact scene that can leave marks that last for days. Come on out and learn how to create the flogging scene you desire. Learn the difference between Thud and Sting; which you prefer, and which floggers can deliver which type of sensation. In this presentation, Ian will talk about getting the most out of your floggers, the care and feeding of your floggers, as well as basic techniques and tips to maximize the impact (pun intended) out of your scene. Ian is happy to show his collection of floggers, let you have a taste of what flogging feels like, and walk you through how to throw a flogger. The Good Parts: Sexy Stories and Plain Ol’ Smut with AskJeeves

Tue meeting for January 3, 2017 8:00PM

The Good Parts: Sexy Stories and Plain Ol’ Smut with AskJeeves.

Many of us found BDSM, and the scene, through erotic fiction. So let’s share what sexy story got us into the scene. AskJeeves will give a brief overview of the history of BDSM erotica, read some of her favorite scenes, and talk about 50 Shades and what you might like next if that’s where you started. If you’ve ever flipped through a book looking for “the good parts,” then you know what we’re talking about. Please be thinking about fiction suggestions to make to the group. We will compile a big list.
