Panel Discussion: Why Can’t I “Switch” Like Her? Hosted by Onyx

Tue meeting for March 21, 2017 8:00PM

We go to “pan” events, and see women of all sexual stripes and expressions. Our community treats female bisexuality as the “norm.” Women identify as “switches” with ease. But what about men? Where is the sexual variety among men at “pan” events? Are men only “hetero” or “gay”? Do men feel comfortable identifying as a “switch”? Join us for a lively panel discussion and community chat on these and other issues related to the little-talked-about topic of male sexual fluidity.

$5 for members and members of reciprocal groups. $10 for non-members. Cash only please!

More than Chocolate and Cuddles: The Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of Aftercare with Watercolors

Tue meeting for March 14, 2017 8:00 PM

More than Chocolate and Cuddles: The Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of Aftercare with Watercolors and Yellow Moonrise. Aftercare: we’ve all heard of it and most of us have done it, but most of us never really figure it out. Why do some people need hours of cuddles after a scene, but others just want to be left alone? How do you figure out what you need from aftercare? What about your partner’s needs? When should aftercare take place? How do you negotiate for it? What if your partner can’t or doesn’t meet your needs? What if your needs change, or you realize you have unexpected needs you didn’t negotiate for? Why does aftercare matter? In this workshop-style, participatory class, we’ll come up with our own definitions of aftercare, learn how to talk about and negotiate for aftercare, discuss who needs aftercare and why we need it, and figure out how to identify our own needs and whether and why our needs might change.

Watercolors (she, her, hers) is a giggly, squirmy, and often snarky bottom. She’s been in the DC-area scene for about 5 years and has previously led classes for C.L.U.E and BR. In her professional life, she’s an experienced trainer and presenter, albeit on much less interesting topics. She came up with the idea for an aftercare workshop after having a giant panic attack following a really awesome scene and discovering that her experience was not at all uncommon. When she’s not doing kinky things, she enjoys singing, dancing, travel, and cats.

Yellow_moonrise (she, her, hers) is a bottom who enjoys (among other things) sensation, tickling, impact, and once in a while, being beaten so hard she cries and totally hits her mental reset button. She’s lived in the DC area for just over 20 years and has been in the local kinky community since October 2012. While she doesn’t feel “brand spanking new” anymore, she still enjoys finding more out about what makes her kinky self tick. This aftercare class is one she has co-led previously for both BR and C.L.U.E., and the topic is one that continues to intrigue her. By day, she’s a high school English teacher and has taught pre-K though 12th graders, so she’s no stranger to education. Outside of kink, yellow_moonrise loves baking, stargazing, exploring new places, seeing Shakespeare plays, spending time near or in large bodies of water, and eating watercolors’ pies.

Negotiating for play the way that event organizers wish you would negotiate. With TernAbout

Tue meeting for March 7, 2017 8:00PM

Event organizers work to create good spaces for play and we pay attention when our attendees tell us how their play went “sideways.” A lot of what we hear comes down to how the play was negotiated, and there are some common complaints. This class will discuss those and talk about some techniques players can use to strengthen their scene negotiating.

TernAbout helped to organize Charmed! and is one of the founders of the Black Rose Hypnosis SIG.

Acro yoga: what the heck is it? with Sylana Gatane

Tue meeting for February 21, 2017, 8:00pm

Who can do it? How do you start playing with it, and what kinky things can you use it for? These are the exciting questions we will ask and answer, in this beginner-friendly introductory class!

We’ll start by demonstrating what acro yoga looks like, and how rope bondage can be happily incorporated into an acro yoga practice. But why stop there? It’s a big beautiful kinky world — there’s more you can do with partner acrobatics than just adding rope.

Kinky or vanilla, acro yoga is fantastic fun! But acrobatic movement arts – like so many BDSM activities — carry certain risks. So we’ll talk about how to learn acro yoga safely, if it tickles your inner RAWR, and give you the tools to pursue RACA (Risk Aware Consensual Acro). And we’ll also explore the areas where acro etiquette follows or diverges from standard BDSM social expectations, so you’ll be comfortable going to an acro event and jumping right into the fun.

If you’d like to try it yourself, the last portion of the class will be volunteer-friendly: try flying or basing some simple poses with one of us. S ee how it feels to rise above it all on someone else’s feet — or be the powerhouse holding it all together! Finally we’ll make sure you have the tools and resources to pursue it further, if acro yoga – kinky or otherwise– seems like a thing that makes you go HMMM.

And once you glimpse the possibilities acro yoga can offer, for exploring lovely joyful things… well, if there’s enough community interest in follow-up educational opportunities… who knows what kinky acro classes might be scheduled next?! 😉

Sylana Gatane is an ardent acro yoga fiend, with a fetish for kinkifying perfectly nice respectable movement arts. She’s also an enthusiastic rope bottom who often seems to delight in making things harder for herself than they need to be – and these passions coalesce perfectly in the practice of acro shibari. Sylana serves as organizer for a private acro shibari practice group (whose members will assist with class presentation), and moderates the ‘DC Acro Kinksters’ group on Fetlife. She also organizes vanilla acro yoga events in Montgomery County, and loves seeing people light up when they discover the joyful practice (and pervertability!) of acro yoga.

Food Porn: Valentine’s Chocolate and Other Kinky Food and Play With Albertina

Tue meeting for February 14, 2017, 08:00pm

“*Food porn* is a glamorized spectacular visual presentation of cooking or eating in advertisements, infomercial , blogs, cooking shows or other visual media, foods boasting a high fat and calorie content, exotic dishes that arouse a desire to eat or the glorification of food as a substitute for sex.” Wikipedia.

But why substitute, let’s learn how to use food to make our play tastier and more interesting. Sweet or Savory, the goal with this class is to give you options to integrate with your style play, no matter the side of the slash you prefer.

Albertina has two switches: On and asleep. Just a little evil and twisted she believes in living life with no holds barred while enjoying the smartasses around her. She believes that sarcasm should be used like a knife, and flirting should include bacon and butter with a touch of chaos.

As a part of the BDSM community for over 15 years Albertina believes we are students of life and that education among our population is lacking as whole. She believes in the intellectual approach to BDSM and Power Exchange through education with a variety of resources, and at venues where ideas are posed, discussed, and explored. Received the Black Rose Volunteer of the Year Award in 2016.
