Sacra Voluptas ex Sancto Dolore: Playing with Corporal Mortification with Alixzander

Accessibility accommodations are available upon request to accessibility@br.org. Please give us two weeks’ notice.
Class Description
Sitting at the intersection of pain, spirituality, and sacrament, this class explores how traditions of corporal mortification have used humiliation, discomfort, and pain to seek spiritual insight. Drawing on examples from Abrahamic and Dharmic faiths and traditions, it examines pain and ordeal as both meditative and adrenaline-focused practices, and demonstrates historical tools and methods, with discussion of how they are adapted for play.
